you can only run gpu3 with nvidia 400 series cards, unless you run the command like this:
fah -gpu 0 -forcegpu nvidia_g80 -advmethods -verbosity 9 -local
try that with what you did before and see if it works!
holy crap you're a genious :) it actually started computing now i think, though it errored out right away with an 'unstable machine' error. first time its gotten that far at least. here's the log
it was trying to use core_15 earlier which was probably the issue. i wasn't forcing it with g80. i'm still not sure from those linux instructions what all we need to do on os x with the wine dll wrapper and stuff though. maybe its not actually seeing the card who knows. thanks for the help:)

Ah, the rumors are causing a feeding frenzy again - I'm still waiting till October when IBM makes it statement concerning their Power4. There are just too many questions and no answers. The only thing that everyone agrees on is that the G4 needs to be replaced or drastically updated.

I knew someone would suggest that... LOL! In user accounts under my name the only thing I see is ituneshelper and some speech thing. But, would ituneshelper prevent my IMac from sleeping, I wonder?

I'm not sure. I have the same issue with my MacBook most of the time, it just won't fully sleep by itself, only the display sleeps. I have never been able to get to the root of it, although I think iTunesHelper may have had something to do with it. I got rid of it, since the only thing it does is open iTunes when an iDevice is connected.

Ok thanks for the info guys. I guess the main thing to take away from your info is that hyperthreading would do relatively little for me. This leaves the slightly faster clockspeed (and therefore slightly higher turboboost max) as the deciding factor for the i7.
I think I'm gonna go with the 3.1 i5, which should be a huge improvement for me seeing as i'm coming from a 2008 macbook with 2GHz C2D en 2GB of ram :P

I maintain servers and enterprise applications from an infrastructure perspective. I'm involved in upgrading two of those enterprise applications at once and I'm on a tight dead line :(

I honestly don't remember what website this popped up on, but Safari started downloading this MacSecurity.mpkg and it ran instantly and bypassed inputting my password? I couldn't really stop it
has anyone gotten this before? it took me to some webpage but I closed it
It said something about me being infected?
Am I going crazy? I didn't click anything(maybe by accident?) and yet this thing popped up, gave me a file and ran the installer without me being able to stop it lol wtf

Go to Safari -> Safari Preferences (Command + ,)
Remove the checkmark from: Open safe files after downloading

Maybe, I've never gone to MacWorld even though I live in San Jose. Only hurdle for me would be taking a day off of work, although i've got plenty of vacation time. Not much of a drinker myself, and not too familiar with SF. Last time I went to meet-up with some people in SF, we ended up in a "massage" parlor. :eek::o:D

This is my first post so hello all.
I went over to techTV.com today and found a realy good video clip showing you the future of PC in five years time, and thay had some great hardware on show too.
But the best thing in the video was this great looking OS that was runing on there computers. Man I thought OSX was a good looking OS, but this look's so good. This is a must see.

And if I ever become a rich man I would love to have one of these monitors to work on PLEASE PLEASE.

By the way, I hate saying this but it's pathetic how my iPhone can run video better than my G4. :(
The iphone has h.264 decoding hardware in it so it hardly even uses the CPU to play video. That is why it plays so much better. Overall a high end G4 tower would have a lot more capability than an iphone.

I picked up the 3DS since I don't see the DSphat - DSlite - DSi revision cycle happening. It's relatively future-proof as is and won't see any major revisions beyond new colors IMO. And we all know how Nintendo is on price drops, so now is as good a time to buy as any.
